Chakriz Kampilanon (ชาคริต คำพิลานนท์) is a compelling contemporary Thai voice whose fierce, politically charged short fiction dives relentlessly into the darkest undercurrents of power, systemic oppression, and societal friction.
Chakriz Kampilanon (ชาคริต คำพิลานนท์) is the authentic name and literary identity of a rising male author from the southern territories of Thailand. Born and raised in the coastal province of Krabi (กระบี่), he currently serves as a civil servant in the neighboring province of Phang Nga (พังงา).
Chakriz’s literary journey commenced in the immediate aftermath of the 2014 military coup by the National Council for Peace and Order, or NCPO (คณะรักษาความสงบแห่งชาติ - คสช.). This volatile political climate served as the catalyst for his debut short fiction, which earned immediate acclaim from the legendary master of Thai literature, Dan-aran Saengthong (แดนอรัญ แสงทอง), during the Bookvirus short story competition. Animated and sustained by a profound sense of political indignation and systemic disillusionment, Chakriz committed himself unreservedly to the craft of writing.
Since that defining debut, his short fiction has been prolifically featured across a diverse array of esteemed literary landscapes. His voice has resonated within classic print magazines such as Chaikha Rueang San (นิตยสารชายคาเรื่องสั้น), Vice Versa Journal (วารสาร Vice Versa), Rahu Om Chan (นิตยสารราหูอมจันทร์), and Writer Magazine (นิตยสาร Writer), as well as prominent digital alternative spaces including the Prachatai Bloggazined (บล็อกกาซีนประชาไท) and the literary platform The Paperless (เว็บไซต์วรรณกรรม The Paperless).
A Visceral Literary Energy
The short stories of Chakriz are characterized by a raw, muscular kinetic energy—at once fierce, uncompromising, and deeply engrossing. Writing with an intuitive, self-assured hand, he plunges readers into the absolute core of his thematic arguments, guided by sharp, incisive plotlines that dissect contemporary realities.
It can be said that the totality of his lived experience and creative energy has been meticulously distilled and arranged within his seminal debut anthology, In the Twenty-Seventh Year and Other Stories (ในปีที่ยี่สิบเจ็ด และเรื่องสั้นอื่นๆ).
Since rendering the definitive decision to pursue literature, Chakriz has maintained a rigorous regimen of reading and composition. He continuously refines his narrative muscles while vigilantly observing shifting socio-political landscapes, balancing this intense intellectual labor with his personal passion for music.
